TYPES OF BEQUEST LANGUAGE:
Specific Bequest—The payment of a specific amount or distribution of particular assets to Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services.
Residual Bequest-After providing for family members and/or other loved ones, this is a designation of all or a percentage of your remaining estate to support Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services.
In order to assist you or your financial representative with appropriate language we suggest the following be added to your will, remembering that the most useful bequest is an unrestricted bequest for the general purposes of Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services. This permits Hospice to use your “realized” bequest toward the campaign purposes as you wish; however, should the campaign be completed at that time, it provides the board of directors with the ability to best determine an appropriate use that meets your desires and responds to the organization’s highest need. Our board of directors adopted a gift/campaign policy in 2010 that directs any realized planned gifts to any current campaign or, if none, to build our endowment to ensure our future. Once we know of your bequest intentions we will recognize you immediately as a donor to the Legacy of Compassion Campaign in your lifetime.
Unrestricted Bequest Language:
“I give and bequeath (the sum of _____ dollars) (all or _____ percent of the residuary of my estate) to Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services, 414 So. Jefferson Street, Napa, CA 94559, Tax ID # 68-0393144, for its general purposes.”
Specific Purpose Language:
“I give (the sum of _____ dollars) (all or _____ percent of the residuary of my estate) to Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services, 414 So. Jefferson Street, Napa, CA 94559, Tax ID # 68-0393144, for the following purpose: (state the purpose such as “for use in its Legacy of Compassion campaign or general endowment if the campaign is completed”).”
Please note: If you specify a designation to the Legacy of Compassion campaign for your bequest, also inserting into your bequest the following language will assure that your gift will always be put to its best use.
“If at any time in the judgment of the board of directors of Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services, the designated use of this bequest is no longer practicable or appropriate, then the board of directors shall use the bequest to further the general purposes of Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services, giving consideration, where possible, to my special interest as described above.”
