Dick Maher
|
Dick Maher has been an iconic and respected leader within the wine industry for more than 40 years. He brings unparalleled experience and a deep and wide pool of industry relationships.
After receiving a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, in 1955, he served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps for 39 months before earning his MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
Maher worked in Marketing Management at Procter & Gamble and E&J Gallo Winery in the 1960s and served as Assistant Director of New Products for Heublein in 1968, returning in 1972 as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for its wine division, United Vintners. In 1975, he became President of Beringer Vineyards, followed by President of Seagram Wine Company and President of Christian Brothers Winery and eventually President of Heublein Fine Wine in the late 1980’s when Heublein acquired Christian Brothers Winery.
Maher formed Maher & Associates in 1992, a management consulting firm specializing in the wine industry, where he oversaw
Niebaum-Coppola Winery in the mid-1990s and held other executive positions at wine and beverage companies until 2004, when he joined Wilson Daniels Ltd. as President. He is currently Chairman of SakeOne in Oregon and recently acted as President of Clos du Val. He is enormously generous in his charitable pursuits as well, serving on several important boards and committees throughout his career. In early May, he was awarded the coveted Christian Brothers Service Award at a gala dinner at the Culinary Institute of America, formerly the
Christian Brothers Greystone Winery. Dick’s industry expertise adds tremendous value to his role as Honorary Vice-Chair of the Legacy of Compassion Campaign leadership team.
